History Lessons 2: The Rat tail haircut.

Now most of use now what a rat’s tail is in haircuts (for those who don’t visit here first) but most of us don’t know the origins of this amazing haircut.

The origin of the rat tail haircut:

Back in the 1300’s the black plague began to spread, it was usually spread by rats. As more and more people started getting the plague they needed some way to tell other people to stay away from them because they were sick, so they decided to give them a feature of a rat. The only way the could think of doing this was to grow one section of the person’s hair to resemble a rat’s tail. 

And that’s why, even to this day, the rat’s tail haircut is associated with being dirty and poor.
